MathCounts Competition Held!

On February 4th, 2017 four schools in the Bayou Region participated in Mathcounts at Nicholls which is sponsored by the Louisiana Engineering Society – Bayou Chapter.  Mathcounts is a competition for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and is geared toward encouraging students to enter math-based careers such as engineering.  The top three teams and the top six individuals from the competition will go on to State competition in Pineville, LA on March 31, 2017.  The team from Houma Junior High School was coached by Jennifer Hopkins and earned 2nd place.  Evergreen Junior High School won 3rd place and was coached by Dawn Plaisance.  In additional to these teams, Emily Baudoin from Evergreen Junior High and Drake Pellegrin from Houma Junior High will also be attending State competition since they placed in the top 6 individuals and weren’t on the schools’ teams.  For more information on the competition, you can read the article in The Nicholls Worth or visit Mathcounts.org.
